I have tried using some pottasium meta in a 5 gal plastic bucket, i had all my plastic equipment and some metal stir sticks also. I checked on my equipment the one day and i noticed the metal was rusting or being eaten my the k meta.. There was a brown-red color rubbing off the metal when i picked them up. Im not sure what type of metals they are but probably not stainless steel. Im wondering if there is equipment your supposed to keep away from k meta? I hope its atleast safe on plastic!

Taking a WAG, you're adding sulfites, which add SO2 to the water. It's a short step to weak sulfur-based acids, which wreak havoc on most irons. It's like rust but worse.

You can definitely use metabisulfite to good effect as a sanitizer (people do it for wine all the time) but I'd probably stop soaking unknown metals in it.

Taking a WAG? :-| what does that mean? And yea no more metals will be put in there. Atleast until i find out exactly how to use the k meta properly on my equipment...
