Can I use my chest freezer fermentation chamber to store food after the beers ferment ?
 
You can store it and you can even ferment in it with other beer sharing the space. Just be aware that a case (or 2 or 3) of beer has a considerable thermal mass and is slow to change its temperature.

I learned this once when I moved 3 cases of beer out of my 36F lagering fridge to make room for a fermenter that was lagering. Since it was over 80F outside the fridge I put the 3 cases into my temp controlled chest freezer where I was fermenting a brew at 64F. Didn't want the cases to overheat. When I checked my fermenter the next day, the temp read 58F. That's when I realized that those 3 cases of 36F beer had cooled down their neighbor in the chamber from 64F to 58F! Fortunately, no harm done since the brew was pretty much done already. But lesson learned. Explains why I didn't do so well in thermodynamics :confused:

if you ferment ales, at say 65F, (or even say 50F for lager) the food has to be moved out again. Where does it go? Do you eat all those stakes in one sitting?

I think food freezer is best kept as freezer. There is some benefit to sub-freezing temperatures for food as well.

Similarly, serving beer is best at 35F-40F or so. Cellaring is perhaps ideal at 50-55F or so. Fermenting at 65F or so. All very different temperatures, ideally requiring different containers.
 
I hide my Cheetos in there so my wife doesn't eat them all. Now I can grab some cheetos when I get a beer and she will never know, I just have to find an excuse for the orange fingerprints on my beer glass.

Last Thanksgiving after our big shopping trip there was no way all the food was going to fit in the fridge. Luckily my chest freezer fermentation chamber was unoccupied at the time, so it became the temporary turkey fridge. I just attached the probe to the side of the turkey like it was a carboy.
 
Recently my keezer died, and I realized our utilities were 75% higher than our average neighbor I went from 4 to 2 freezer/rerig units in the house.

The one being a used $175 fridge/freezer. I am lost with only 4 kegs on tap but the extra freezer space and hopefully lower utility bills will make it worth it. The way I see it is any cold space in a homebrewers home is a vacuum asking to be filled with more beer. If you want to stockpile food in it, do you have to eat it all when it is time to brew again?
 
Gotta say I'm loving my fridge-freezer setup. Fridge stays at normal fridge temps, all the fermenting happens outside the fridge in temperature controlled swamp coolers. I use water pumps to push the swamp cooler water through a coil in the fridge to cool the fermenters. That leaves the other 90% of the fridge available for cold crashing, yeast storage and bottled beer, maybe a keg or 2 when I go down that road. The freezer part is for ice / hops / frozen wort. All bases covered with one fridge.
