Hi, need a little help. 1st time poster so sorry if its in the wrong place.
I am in the process of making an IPA, got back from my LHBS and started adding grain to the mash (I use BIAB) As I was adding the grain I realised that 1KG of UK Amber Malt was uncrushed.

Any thoughts on how this would affect the beer? OG was meant to be 1.066 before the Amber Malt - and would have been 1.076 if the Amber Malt had been crushed.

Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks loads

I am making a 23L / 5 Gallon batch

28.17% American 2-Row - 2KG
28.17% Golden Promise Malt - 2KG
14.08% Munich I - 1KG
14.08% UN CRUSHED UK AMBER MALT!!!! - 1KG
7.04% Caramunich I - 0.5KG
7.04% Carapils (Dextrine) - 0.5KG
1.41% Crystal 60 - 0.1 kG

No I went to the local shop here in NZ, and they only sold whole crushed grain in kilo and 500g bags. The majority of malt purchased was crushed, but 1 bag of uncrushed malt slipped through. Hence accidentally adding to my brew in the bag mash tun.

Thanks for quick reply!

Could you bash them with a hammer if you can't go back right away? :rockin:

EDIT: Oh, you've already used them.

You'll lose the fermentables from them, but may get a little color. . Lower OG, and therefore abv. Different flavor but will probably still be a tasty end product.

And the carapils would also play a role in head retention so, that may suffer a little.
Think the caramunich is pretty close to the same.

With a very poor crush (which I would guess is no crush) I would expect to have a lower OG, a little less color, and a little less flavor from that grain. It certainly won't ruin it. It's probably like adding half or less of that grain would be my guess.
