TX, Zone 8 people, when to plant?

I missed spring this year. Am thinking about planting in early November. Will they survive winter OK as young growth, or should I just wait til next spring?

Guy I talked to LY said that rhizomes will not keep that long. Best to plant them, even in a planter, and manage until next Feb. Drought here in SA never let mine get going.

If you have them, do as bnbspop suggests. Otherwise, you won't be able to get rhizomes until next Spring, so it's a moot point.
