I want to use some of our homegrown Chinook hops and thought the best first stab would be to add them to a recipe that we already know is good. We are thinking about using the Chinook IPA extract kit w/ specialty grains from Northern Brewer and adding our whole cone hops in as a whirlpool addition.
Not knowing the AA level of our hops makes any technical recipe calculations less useful. I would like to make sure we balance out the addition of the extra hops and since the recipe already has 1lb of Pilsen DME could I just add another pound? The bonus of a slightly higher ABV potential from the extra malt would be ok with me!
This is the first year for our hops so the yield will not be great. I'm guessing only 30-40 cones.
Thanks!
