I'm brewing a 10 gallon batch this week. My first. I have a beer I make that I love, but have only made 5 gallons at a time. Can I just double the recipe or do I have to do anything different?
 
You should be able to double the recipe and be fine. I have Beersmith and when i convert one of my 5 gallon recipes to 10 gallons it just double my ingredients. My hop additions are just a hair over double but you should be pretty damn close by doubling your exact recipe.
 
Is your recipe extract, partial mash or all-grain? If it is all grain you might want to make sure your mash tun will be able to handle the volume and perhaps add a few handfulls of rice hulls to help prevent a stuck mash due to the extra weight of the additional grain on your filtering device. I learned this lesson the hard way. When I do a much larger grain bill for a higher gravity brew (like 17 lbs versus 11 lbs) my efficiency does take a small decline. This may or not apply to your system.
 
Yeah, It's all grain. My system can handle 10 gallons. I've only used rice hulls on one batch. My grain bill for this recipe is 9lbs, so 18 for 10 gallon..
 
The other issue is that chilling your wort quickly becomes more important. If you figure that at knockout, your beer will become more bitter the longer it sits, given that 10 gallons takes longer to cool given any average cooling technique, it is vital to take extra steps to get the temp down.
 
Boil off is about the same for 5 gallons as it is for 10 so keep that in mind when calculating preboil volumes
