I'm in the market for a brew kettle. Bu I've got an aluminum kettle that I've fried turkeys in that I'd like to use if possible. I don't care if I ever fry a turkey again and if I can save myself some money I'd just assume do it. Is there any hope for cleaning it?

I put about a gallon of water in it and let it boil with the lid on to remove the thick oil deposits then dump it . Then just use some dish soap and a green scrubby and the hottest water you can stand. My first pot was a used turkey fryer pot .

I'm currently using a 10 gal aluminum turkey fryer pot. It looks ugly, but that's normal for aluminum. Boil it with 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water then scrub the hell out of it. If you have blemishes that won't come off with that, than they are never going to come off.

I would re-season the aluminum after wards to build the protective layer back up after all that scrubbing. Just fill it up with water as high as you can and boil for an hour or so.

I used oxyclean and a scrubbie and hot water to get the oil out. Aluminum is one thing you don't want oxyclean to sit in, it will destroy it with time. But, it works great for a short time, (20 minutes), then scrub, rinse, boil to re-passivate, and I have an excellent boil kettle.

+1 to this idea
