So I drank the first bottle of my first batch today, I was actually impressed with myself! It is an English brown ale extract kit from brewer's best. I'm not currently at home, so I don't have the o.g. or f.g. I do remember calculating the abc and it was close to five%. Taste is great, like a "heavy" Newcastle.

I'm happy that I didn't have any of the homebrew disasters that seem so common to new brewers. I'm sure after a few more batches I'll figure out that this beer isn't nearly as good as I think. But for now I'm saying "hooraay me!".

Thanks to all for sharing your experiences, good or bad, I'm sure your advice has helped many more than just me.

J.B.

Congrats J.B. I cracked my first ones last night. I also made a brown ale and am quite impressed with it. Glad to hear your batch turned out well!

Cheers!

Congrats! Now, just make sure everything is squeaky clean and sanitary for your next batch, something you don't have to worry about as much when you brew with brand new equipment, and I'm sure you'll continue to enjoy and improve!

It doesnt really matter how your next batches turn out (well it does but you know what I mean) I'll always remember my first batch as being one of my best.

Congrats, nothing like cracking open that first homebrew.

My first brew, also BB Brown Ale, is in the fermenter. I'll be bottling next Sunday. Glad yours worked out well. Makes me even more impatient to taste mine!

Congrats! I'm bottleing my DIPA in 7 days! Will probably try one in 3 weeks. Cant wait till I can make a similar thread!

Congratulations. I'm jealous. Mine's still fermenting. Can't wait to pop the top on the first one. I have a good feeling about it, thanks to the incredible help of everone here, I'm feeling very confident.

Thanks for the encouragement! Swmbo says I'm addicted to homebrew because I'm always searching this site for info. I've got a batch of cider aging, what flavor beer should I brew to keep her happy? I've got an apa kit, I know that will be too hoppy for her, ideas? Please, J.B.

Cream ale. Light like an American beer. None of the cold-fermenting problems of a lager.
