Would it be ok to bring my fermenting primary home with me for thanksgiving? It is currently bubbling. Assume being very careful with it and getting it home safe besides normal vehicle travel.

Anyone ever brought a primary a distance of 4+ hours?

Definitely bag and secure it well. It should travel fine, but may "urp" a little if the ride is bumpy. A black garbage bag brought up from the bottom will take care of everything as previously suggested.

Question: Why?

are you going to rack from primary to secondary during thanksgiving break? is there a reason this cannot just wait until you get back to town?

there's nothing wrong with beer sitting in primary for 2-3 weeks after fermentation has ceased completely. In fact, a lotta people here swear by the 'long primary, no secondary' method, and their beer is top notch.
