Has anyone attempted tissue propagation for hop rhyzomes? the kit costs $250 and comes with all the necessary equiptment I've got 30 plants and would like to expand rapidly... from what I understand is it is basically cloning on a microscopic level... any advice?

Never tried it but I'm not sure why you would. The traditional use of rhizomes is pretty close to what I would consider "cloning" since it is propagation of a piece of the mother plant. It seems if you start with tissue propagation, you would have to wait a couple of years before it had enough root system to become product.

If you are in a real hurry to scale up, just buy more rhizomes, unless you are really dead set up propagating the exact plants you have. Then you'll have to wait until they are around 3 years old to harvest some rhizomes. So either through tissue propagation or waiting for yours to mature, you are looking at a couple of years before you can harvest.

If you are looking to scale up from your 30 plants to an acre or more, start getting your order in now. You can try fresh hops, hop union or any of the other sources found on this blog. My group could also get you some rhizomes, but we would have to know pretty quickly. Unless we find another source for more rhizomes, it would probably have to be 1,000 or less. Just PM me if you are interested.
