Living social is now carrying the Midwest "Groupon" deal. Only available for another 2 days, so if you want to start, I highly recommend to jump on it. MIDWEST DEAL

Thanks! Just bought mine - been reading up on homebrewing the past couple weeks, so I'm pretty excited! :D

This is a great deal and you won't be disappointed with what you get. Still need a boil pot though if you don't already have one.

Real good deal, especially since it also includes $25 toward an ingredient kit. I purchased a Midwest groupon special about 7 months ago and I was really impressed with the equipment. Hasnt let me down yet.

Midwest also includes very clear directions in all their kits. This helped me big time when I made the switch from Mr. Beer

Yep, and it doesn't have to go towards a kit, it could be individual ingredients, which is what I did, or even some equipment you still need, say an autosiphon or the like. Free money!

thanks I have a buddy who's been waiting on the Midwest Groupon to start his homebrewing. Living social will work as well as groupon so I gotta go message him

Hi there...... been lurking for a while but decided to sign up to ask some questions. I've been brewing with Mr Beer and recently decided to step up to 5gal. I already have some equipment that is included here (capper, hydrometer, bottling wand, lowes food grade 5gal bucket with spigot). My plan was to get 5gal stuff for xmas, but now I've come across this deal. So given what I have and what I planned to get, am I better off doing this deal?
My xmas list includes:
Better Bottle 6gal (i guess this would be the biggest difference).
6.5 gal bucket (with spigot/lid) was going to use as second primary or secondary.
Auto siphon.
Airlocks.

I could get this deal and add a lid with grommet so I can have a second primary.

But given what I have and am missing, is it still worth it (giving up the carboy)?

TIA

Planning to pick up a dedicated brew pot in the next week or so. Sounds like an auto-siphon and maybe some sanitizer might be a good use for the $25 credit.

I've made the livingsocial purchase, but it will be 24-48 hours before I get an email with Midwest ordering instructions. Looks like I will have a pick of 3 different kits: Irish red, Irish Stout, and Amber ale. Although I love stouts, some of my beer drinking friends aren't huge fans of that style so I'd like to go with something a bit more mellow. I know it's a matter of taste, but is the Irish red a decent choice?

*Livingsocial offers referral links where users can get deals free if 3 people purchase via the referral. Since I'm new here, would posting a referral be frowned upon?

I wouldn't think so, just a matter if others will use it.

My first brew was their Irish Red, I thought it was pretty good, i bought some Nottingham yeast to use instead of the Munton's at my LHBS, but overall it was very successful for my first effort. It was gone in a hurry.

I made the Midwest Irish Red twice. Real crowd pleaser and it goes fast

This doesn't come with an autosiphon and only one airlock. It'll definitely be better than the Mr. Beer kit you have. The bottling bucket is 6.5 gallons too, so you could really do any combination of primaries and secondaries you wish. Plus you effectively get two extract kits.

Totally would have gotten this 3-4 weeks ago if i'd been paying attention. I went w the one that was 150-160 and had kettle and bottles and siphon. Of course i found a guy local who sold me 96 bottles 48 12 oz and 48 22 oz for 40 bucks. Of course now I wish I had some flow for kegs... ugh... i'm addicted and I"ve only started.

Done. This should suite me as well as my "wishlist" items. Nice gift from the Mrs.
Used the referral link.

Used my voucher to order the kit. I wanted to add a lid and airlock; the shipping jumped from $12 to $30!!! Even if I did it as two transactions it would have come out to $23 total shipping. Might have to call and see if they can add the extra stuff bc that doesn't make any sense.

Midwest shipping doesn't make sense ...it's why I don't use them anymore plenty of other vendors have flat shipping that sell the samething and in many cases better prices...however the groupon kit it best deal out there for a beginner kit...get your kit buy everything else from the other guys

Midwest was kind enough to add my extra lid and airlock to my kit. I have to admit, the guy I dealt with was friendly and helpful.
