I'm afraid it's a sign of the times. It's a shame that people allow their children to become morbidly obese so early in life. There's nothing even remotely cute about this.

I will never understand how a parent can let their child get to be that fat without doing something. It's disgusting to think more parents these days just plop their kids down in front of a TV instead of kicking them outside into the yard.

Wow....even if he thins up by middle school, he'll still get taunted about that. Why do people do this to their kids?

That's sad.

I have a problem with my daughter and food, too, but it's the opposite direction. She's such a picky eater, it's hard to keep her fed. Sure, all kids love fast food, but we try really hard to limit it.

*ring a ding ding*

Child protective services, how can we help you?

---

That's obscene! I'm very leary of government intervention in raising children, but honestly! That's literally killing your child and taking years off his life!

That is very disturbing that kid is likely in for a long painful death at an early age. Parents should be punished for letting their kids get that way.

Poor kid, shame on his parents. I'm sure they're the type that just break down and cry when questioned about their childs weight, saying they don't know what to do.

In community college, before I went to University, I was in a class where we had to do a group research paper. My group had a single mom with an overweight kid, and the group chose to do the research paper on childhood obesity. It was disgusting watching the mom justify her kid's obesity. How it wasn't her fault, and how the kid complained when he has to eat healthy. Um.... all kids do that! I don't understand how parents are willing to let health take a back seat to their child's wants.

Before folks get too outta hand here, I must point out that I don't think this child's obesity is purely related to overeating. He has a look that I often see in kids who are undergoing medical treatment, such as with high-dose steroids or certain forms of chemotherapy.

I agree that childhood obesity is a plague and, thanks to overly-processed and fast foods, the fat-related diseases have replaced starvation or malnutrition as the plague of the poor. (It IS cheaper to eat poorly than healthily these days.) I'm just saying let's not be too quick to judge without all the facts. He could be sick with something that makes his obesity pale in comparison.

Thank you, I was just about to say that! He looks like he has a disease called Cushing's, but then again he may just be obese. And I love how people are so quick to blame when they know nothing about this kid or their family.

Most people apply Occam's razor to situations like this.

How does Occam's razor apply to this situation?

Since obesity, especially in children, is such a problem in the US it makes it a far more possible reason for the child's situation instead of a somewhat rare disease or disorder.

That the parent's seem to relish in it enough to post or allow the video of the kid on the internet singing in an effort to "win" some sort of funny or not "contest" makes me question them even more.

Maybe I'm just talking ****, which I'm want to do, so I'll bow out.
