Whoa, thanks for all that. 667 bottles are supposed to be hitting soon, I think I read?

Definitely going to be hunting for YR as well because it keeps selling out immediately in Austin. ChukHell said they got 1 case in so far at his (huge) craft beer department in ATX, which is beyond ridiculous to me, lol.

But yeah, we can't leave till 7pm or so tonight (my wife has to work overtime because her company doesn't get holiday pay [lol]), so I might be able to get into a bar or HEB either late tonight or late tomorrow night before we drive home.
Guru Burgers and Crepes does growler fills of Yellow Rose. I am gonna send out a growler to my next few trades.

Heads up to my Houston homies: Old Forester Birthday Bourbon is finally showing in stock at Houston Downtown specs. I'm hopefully headed there in a few hours to grab a bottle. I'm also willing to swap scotch or other bourbon for it if I happen to miss it.

Cheers,

BusinessSloth

Oh snap! Thanks for the heads up Brad!

Always and forever. If you're going by there today, holla at me via PM. I got a new phone # recently.

And it looks like I can't make it today. Really hope I don't miss it. If someone wants to goandpickitupbro that would be great. Can toss you some beer/scotch/bourbon samples for your troubles as well. Also have full bottles of whiskies that I would trade.

I'm planning on hopefully heading there during lunch or after work. Send me a PM with your updated phone #. I'll pick one up for ya if at all possible as well.

Neighbor of the Beast has been on shelves a few places around the area. I think Gentleman's Relish is being released today. Where are you staying tonight? Are you camping out near the Ren Fest? Or getting a hotel closer to Conroe?

I was at Ren Fest a few weekend s sgo. The only craft beer tavern is to the left when you walk in. We went right and didn't see it until we were walking out. To the left on the outer ring.

Hampton Inn Conroe... it was the closet hotel I could get to the event (and I work for Hilton, so I get a discount)

did they have Old Forester Birthday Bourbon? might have to go acquire as well. i just picked up some ORVW10, Pappy 15, Lot B and BTAC Sazerac. Who knew whiskey made you broke faster than binge purchasing beer? lol. #fml

Whisky hauls hurt pretty badly. That feel when Twin Liquors has Lagavulin 16 for $65 on sale, and you load up your shopping cart for personal consumption & gifts.

whiskey hauls hurt, but when you realize that you're going to open that bottle 10-15 times for a hundo or so, versus 1 time for $20 or so, the hurt feels much better.

(unless you push 5 ounce pours like i am prone to)

that sucks. I hate being lied to. just tell me we have the product, but its reserved to a list of people.
A certain chain market in Austin has done this to me, so now I go into their little cabinet of goodies when possible. **** the Man!
When they reserve beers, they put a name tag on them, so I only take unreserved things. I'm a rebel, not an *******.

So I'll be in Austin this year again for Black Friday. Anyone have an idea of locations that will be getting Vanilla Rye? Was planning on heading to the main Whole Foods first then stopping by Central Maret and Specs-Brodie on my way towards JK.

Just spoke to a representative at Spec's in downtown Houston to discuss the way they take "reservations" for bourbon.

tl;dr: they don't.

Any bourbon that they classify as "allocated" is sold solely based of Key Points. You get 1 Key Point for ever $1 you spend at Spec's.

"Allocated" Borbons: BTAC, 4 Roses Single Barrel, OFBB, Pappy, etc...

But there are also some bourbon's that are "allocated" you wouldn't think, such as Weller 12.

I asked how many key points the people who got the pick of the Pappy had. He told me that the top person had over $700,000 spend at spec's the previous year, and the top group of people that got Pappy all had over $600,000 spent that previous year.

oof. key points. if it requires half a mill in purchases for a bottle of pvw.... lol.

why is weller 12 "allocated"? that's weird.

Does that mean businesses that purchase through Specs get key points?

lol, oh specs..

At first glance it would seem that business purchases would have to qualify... But then I remember we live in a city where $700,000+ spent on liquor for a year isn't unheard of for some people... Thinking fundraisers/weddings/etc... that buy outside of a business classification.

Specs and twin liquors both allocated all of their BTAC, Pappy, and OFBB. South lamar drops a single bottle on the shelf at some random time in the evening to boost foot traffic, then rapes on prices. Whiskey is way more ****** than beer and it happened quite a bit faster. Five years ago this **** just sat on the shelves, especially pappy 23.

Not to derail, or start Black Friday frenzy of any kind, but anyone know with certainty if/where any BCBS/variants will be available in Austin on Friday? I dont want to waste my time running around town chasing ghosts. I also don't want to call and harass every store in town, so figured I'd see if anyone has the 411 first.
