GSB - walked in to try the bacon/maple...walked out after THREE people behind he bar couldnt seem to care at all that we were waiting to order...after serving the 4th person that came up to the bar AFTER us we walked out...never again with that place

Barrage - great place, great people check it out. Last Tribal smelled like a coconut bomb but drank really balanced

Don't worry, your not missing anything special at GSB...

it gets hard to support so many local breweries and most of them are very nice folks that you want to support and give a chance to. some are making some good beer.

I think gsb has a lot of promise but they cut corners and have too much quantity. I use to nab every release sometimes in multiples but the quality has been inconsistent and the releases hang around long enough that now I swing by the brewery every now and again and grab a flight of what's been new and if anything is better than decent I grab a bottle for myself or a trading partner that I think might dig it. they aren't really going for being the best brewery, I think they are going for being a local destination and a facility that can contract brew, but I don't know. thats just what it seems like to me.

barrage has been impressive imo, but still a baby. draft only still.

I have also been impressed w spider bite (new mini tasting room finally) and barrier has put out some solid beers...they just have too many to choose from. I think it was wise that they do money more regularly but that's one they should have always. I thought axilla was great too, they barleywine was just ok.

there's a lot of activity on the island so let's see who lasts and who is just a flash in the pan

you know i am a barrier fanboy but I do think they are the best on island and i agree, they need money to be on all the time... back in Jan they had it on the whole month and i think it worked well. they need to can that **** ASAP, so it can be sent around. I have done my share of sending their growlers, but if people could get money in cans they would go ape **** over it.

Agreed though, Axilla was pretty damn tasty.

Daddy is always great and glad they did another batch with OMH...

They do need to can/bottle Money, but I worry what the price point will be. Wasn't the last IPA in sixers like $25 or something ludicrous like that?

yeah, they did rock n roll at $5 a bottle or $25 a 6. that is a fantastic beer, but so cost prohibitive to supporting them. i bought a single of it. while i do admire the experimentation and feel that it is cool to have something for everyone, i also think that is the big mistake most breweries make is that they make a lot of mediocre beer instead of just 1 or 2 solid beers. when you get a hit that people gravitate towards, have it all of the time. barrage does a nice variety of brews, but they did yada yada yada as a one time thing and people went nuts for it so now they brew it all of the time and there is talk of that being their first bottle.

i think malcom gladwell wrote a whole book about choices and how too many choices confuse the consumer out of making a purchase at all. i think it was called teaching your cat to bark.

Yeah the Rock & Roll bottles have been pricey.

But when the bottled Daddy and BBHCFM the price point wasnt too bad on those, they were bombers, but def Daddy costs more to brew than Money.

If they keep it aligned with OH Green Diamonds it would be good.

Wasn't Daddy Warbucks about $10 for a 22oz bottle when it was available?

Not barrel aged bud

do you know if he has any of this sitting in barrels? i think it was you who told me he has something sitting in barrels for years already (or was that axilla?). i know that archibald was aged before being released...i guess it was aged in the bottles then?

They had some mortica aging in barrels. They have a keg of it on now and a few also went to some bars.

Axilla was aging in bottles.

Archibald was not aged in barrels but they sat on it for a bit. Not sure if it was aged in bottles or not.

Here's something to ponder...what present beer produced on long island would you like to see barrel aged? Could be whiskey bourbon rum wine...whatever barrel you want. Barrage tribal cow in sag harbor rum barrels would be my pick. Coconut rum for dayyys!

Southampton RIS?

^--- this was built to be in a barrel, but it will never happen.

that said, i was lucky enough to have the boris aged on jak daniels soaked spirals...would love to try that in a real barrel.

Barrage Moore Nelson batch 2 drops this weekend. Should be juicier than batch one

wanna meet there this weekend? i've got the kids sunday, could swing by for a growler fill and bottle exchange...but will have the kids all day so no long hang or drinking beyond a sip or a few.

Hey folks, I'm in Rockville Centre for work. Any shops in the area that might have Tilquin OG? I'm here for a project kickoff and I've been in a conference room listening to people read off PowerPoint slides for 6 hours and I want to treat myself. If no Tilquin than just the best bottle shop will do. Thanks!

Bottle shop-wise, your closest/best bet is probably going to be McBreens in Lynbrook (heading west on the Sunrise). If you wanted to drive a bit further, you can head down Long Beach Road (not recommended during rush hour) and hit Monarch in Long Beach. Im not a big fan of that store, but they are currently showing Tilquin in stock on beermenus.

EDIT: If you wanted a "sit down and drink" option, check out Press 195 or Croxleys right in RVC village or drive into Oceanside and hit up Barrier Brewing.
