I was there last week, and there were other things on the menu than sours. It was about 50/50, it seemed. All I had were sours though, I love the massive fruit/berry flavors and levels of tartness of all of them.

I can confirm that they filled growlers in years past. Haven't gotten a chance to get there yet since Roustabout has been on.

Raises some interesting points. But the understanding I have is they are using that as a production facility for the pacnw so tasting room sales would seem to be a bonus for them rather than a primary source of income.

Depends on where you go. Places like Small Bar still have reasonable prices, but places like Toro charge $7 for a pint of Blind Pig.

Small Bar is definitely also on the $7/pint train for the large majority of their board, including stuff like Swami's. Pretty sure that's just cost of doing business in prime real estate.

That's similar to what the beer bars out here charge. $7 pints and I'd think the rent is cheaper. I don't go out drinking nearly as much as I used to.

You left too early. My first visit there yesterday and ran into Banker but you had already gone (back to the epicenter of hipness.) I did like their prices.

Pretty much what I'm asking. Also did MT just say we're charging what we do in socal because that's what we need to do to make money? Or did they really survey the competitive landscape and acknowledge to themselves that they were going to be high but was worth the risks? They posted on FB they are doing a new "super Berliner" and will have cans aren't down here. Curious to see what those run.

For my dad in South Jersey who has bought a 12 pack of PBR bottles for $7 most of his life, yes.

I don't live in Portland, I haven't visited Portland (yet), but I would imagine that food and beverages are all going up in every major Metropolitan. Modern Times isn't just selling beer, they are selling feelings/lifestyle/ambiance in addition to a pour of beer. Heck look at San Francisco. You can get a pint of Pliny The Elder for $5 at shitbag Toronado or you could go to Mikkeler SF and it would probably be $12 a glass.

To further the discussion about MT in Portland, time will tell if locals will put up with that pricing, I think the hazebro phenomenon (paying $24 for a four pack of Double IPA) is everywhere, not just Southern California. My gut tells me MT won't have to bat an eye.

Order of Hermes was a "super Berliner" released in January and it was $18.25/4pk all in. I would expect Moonsilver to come in at an equal or similar pricepoint.
