Just catching up on thread, was randomly at GF tasting room tonight (first time in the last year or so) and had Nelson.... it was decent but much more rye-forward and spicier than I remember the OG version.... the hop flavors were a bit fruitier and not particularly Nelson-y. I would be surprised if they trekked an Alpine-brewed Nelson all the way up to GF, but who knows... I've heard that does happen sometimes but there is no way to really know if a beer is Alpine-brewed unless you have an insider GF connection.

My friend did ask if any of the Alpine beers on the GF board were brewed at Alpine and the bartender was pretty snarky.... "What does it matter?" "They all taste great anyway!" Either he gets that question a lot (still) and/or that is the standard company response to that type of question. We didn't have the heart to give him a lecture on the historical differences in quality between the same beers brewed at Alpine vs. GF.

There was a lot of newer (?) Alpine-themed merch in the GF store tho.... I guess so fans of GF-brewed Alpine can get an Alpine shirt to show their support for Alpine without ever going to Alpine.... what a time to be alive!

All this OG Nelson talk is getting me hot and bothered. Sounds like I picked a decent time to come visit.

I'll be in SD(well...El Cajon) from Saturday-Wednesday and would love to meet up for some beers. Way too many places to hit on my list.

Is Toro Tuesday still a thing?

Look: Legit Nelson

Smell: Legit Nelson

Mouthfeel: Soft, a bit softer/smoother than OG. Very nice.

Taste: Slightly more pronounced flavors over my memory of OG. That was around 3000 beers ago though. The correct flavors, just more distinct. Spicier, more grapefruity. Finish is a quick bitter kick. Delicious.

Honestly, if I didn't know I'd say it was made up there. As good as any 'average' OG batch which means stellar. Will be buying till it is gone, wouldn't rather have anything else right meow.

Need benbikes4beer to confirm.

Sorry I suck, I ain't no Xul putting palate to paper.

The more into the glass I get the more I think she's back guys.

I had it on draft in the Alpine taproom a week and a half or so ago (there was an * next to Nelson and Bad Boy at that time fwiw) and thought it was pretty legit. It's been so long since I've had OG Nelson that it's a little hard to remember exactly, but I think it was damn close and real good.

wtf I didn't even notice it up when I got my Bad Boy. Sheeit.

I have 1 bottle of Chez left and I'm opening it tomorrow with my family because my sister is getting proposed to. Her soon-to-be-fiancé has mentioned it to me off-hand for awhile so this seems like a good occasion to drink it.

Update: Sister engaged. Chez is still fantastic. Maybe not quite as much fruit on the nose (I remember it being way in your face), but it's still there and still smells fantastic. More apricot than peach on the nose these days. Apricot flavor had faded a bit in taste but there was still a hint of it in the tartness. White peaches were still quite prominent and tasting amazing. Sad I'll probably never drink it again, but joyed that I had the opportunity to share it one last time with my family and celebrate a great occasion with it.

Doesn't kingg still have some or was he wiped out? Also check Solana Beach bottlecraft. Bottles seem to sit there moreso than the other BC locations.
Ain't nobody got time for North County

I'll make a stop at BC LPM and check them out - they were the ones who had BA Monster's Park for a good while.

No time for East County, no time for North County.

They had BA MP for awhile because it was horribly infected, if you mean last year's.

You may want to make that stop later in the day today. BottleLogic is out delivering cases of Fundamental Summation to various accounts. Bottlecraft usually gets a case per location. Not sure if it will go public or be lock&key members only...or if they will even get it.

That one batch that showed up at TJ's for cheaper, and then at Bottlecraft. I had a bottle of both the reg and the coconut and both were solid.

Thanks for the heads up. Got someone watching BCLI instagram closely now.

Good news: finally leaving this place tomorrow, headed to DC and checking out Aslin, Ocelot, and the breweries that have opened in my hometown over the last year.

Bad news: I have the honor of returning to the middle east in aug when it's 130 with high humidity all while having to miss the talkbeer anniv, dankness, and Foreigner concert among other things.

I already got word...you can stop watching the instagram account now. It is going to be for their lock&key members only.

The hard part....packing up beer to bring with me for the shares. Can't underperform others, can't outperform others....need to guess that sweet spot.

Speaking of, anyone have an opinion on Lock&Key as a membership program? What "special beers" have they gotten so far, and has it been worth whatever the cost was?
