For those doing Grand Prix during SDBW, they posted 2 of the 4 variants in each of the laps today:

Lap 1:
• Root Beer Speedway Stout
• Cucumbah Speedway Stout

Lap 2:
• Peanut Butter Banana Speedway Stout
• German Chocolate Speedway Stout

Lap 3:
• Chili Mango Speedway Stout
• Ginger Nibs Speedway Stout

VIP Lap:
• Toasted Coconut Vanilla Barrel-Aged Vietnamese Speedway Stout
• WaffleSmith Barrel-Aged Speedway Stout

Looks like I can immediately rule out laps 1 and 3.

True. I was even debating not doing any laps at all because there are always fun variants on tap.

Yeah, the ones on tap are usually the rest of the 20-24 total submissions that didn't make the cut to be in the 3 regular laps and the VIP lap. But sometimes they actually are better....except for that ex-girlfriend variant. That one can go DIAF. I finished the 2oz pour, but I regretted it the rest of the day.

Isn't that usually the case? I stopped tackling all the laps solo a few years ago because there were always a good amount of stinkers.
I seem to recall last year being the best it's been in years, in that they did fewer weird experiments and more of the weird ones ended up working fairly well than usual, but there were still a couple that didn't quite work. This year is looking a bit rough on paper so far but hopefully the remaining variants tend towards the safer end of the spectrum.

Yeah, I heard last year was solid, but I never bothered to look into it too much. I think last year was the first time since living here that I got burned out on SDBW and beer in general and ignored most of the festivities.

Yeah, I did the same.

I remember one year a took a week off of work for SDBW.

I skipped last year as well and SBE did the sublime alesmith night so I didn't feel like I missed much. Thinking I'll try and make this year's going a little stir crazy here need to get out a bit.

Last year was actually my first year and I liked most of the variants.

It was definitely polarizing. I loved it (this was when it was still an O'Brien's event), it tasted like Speedway I'd be served at the spa.

definitely infected.

“The new location will have the trademark Pure Project ambiance adapted to fit the feel and architecture of the building and location.”

So....the stench of axe body spray and desperation.

Heard it from a friend who heard from a friend who heard it from another that the guy who wrote that did so without permission or any details.

A lot of what he wrote is off like most of his "breaking news" "reports" are. He just loves being first to print and runs with ****.

I can't stand how often he just straight up buries the lede in favor of some fluffy intro ********.

But, good for Pure I guess.

Place was busy, but not overly so. Decor was nice. I swear they pulled the old TV from my grandparent's house.

Food menu looked decent but as an avid meat eater I did not partake much aside from the bowl of nuts/popcorn that was brought out and my mother (yes I even convinced my non-beer drinking mother to come out and check it out) ordered the croquettes, which were quite tasty.
