Stl Board of Aldermen approve MLS stadium financing bill 20-7.

(Via KMOV News)

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Friday, the St. Louis City Board of Aldermen approved the stadium funding bill to build a soccer stadium in St. Louis.

The board approved the funding 20-7. Now, a judge will have to sign off on the measure before it will appear on the April ballot.

Earlier in the week, SC-STL formally submitted an application to the MLS for an expansion team to be brought to the city.

A study done by Missouri Wonk shows a soccer stadium has the possibility of bringing more money and activity into the area. It is also estimated to create 450 jobs during the start-up and construction period, and 428 permanent jobs.

The study also shows the stadium could bring $556 million in value to the City of St. Louis economy along with generating almost $78 million in local taxes and fees.

If the measure appears on the ballot, voters will be asked to approve a half-cent sales tax increase, as well as vote on using the money to help build the stadium.

moral of the story? Don't win the EPL Title :p

Looking like the #FreeMix campaign has worked - NYCFC exercised its one offseason buyout of a guaranteed Contract on Mix Diskerud. He remains under contract with MLS - let's see how this works out for Diskerud

MLS is back baby! Minnesota looked terrible in their opener, more or less as everyone thought, losing 5-1 to Portland (admittedly, in Portland).

So I haven't said much in this thread lately, but I started doing a sort of semi-weekly bit on Sounder at Heart, commenting on the week's MLS action. You can read it here: MLS Roundup

no worries - I shall raise my glass to you anyways :mug: btw what do you think about Freddie Montero joining Da 'caps? Montero has done one thing Messi has never done.....
Score vs Chelsea :p

On the one hand, it sucks to see a guy who was such a legend playing for the Sounders is now playing for another team. On the other hand, if the Sounders really wanted Montero, they could have made it happen; they have a DP slot to use and they have the coffers to beat Vancouver on sheer buying power, that tells me they didn't want him. I think Montero will do well, but to a certain extent the league has passed him by, he'll do fine but probably won't be as amazing as he was years ago.

Wow! They just handed Cassar a big contract extension too! Is it premature? I'm not so sure. RSL is 0-1-2 to start the season, with their lone goal coming in Saturday's loss. Really they should have fired Cassar last year, I was shocked when they handed him an extension.

Well looks like some International Champions Cup information was leaked and Spurs are coming to the US in July, looks like a weekend match in Orlando against PSG, a weeknight in Jersey against AS Roma, and a weekend in Nashville against Manchester City. Looks we're driving down to Nashville (Jersey is preferable but the timing is poor).

Unfortunately I won't make it back to White Hart Lane before it's torn down for the new grounds, but hopefully going for a visit back home this fall and hit a home match at Wembley while there.

Meh, You are only spurs. It ain't like you are Arsenal or something! ;)

Rooney to Everton (allegedly) and Schweinsteiger to Chicago Fire (seems pretty much a done deal).

Madness.

Schweinsteiger is one of those Chicago Fire roster choices that makes no sense to me. He's not likely to put many more butts in seats or eyes on TVs and they don't really need a left or center midfielder.

They don't need a central midfielder, but Bastian Schweinsteiger is probably one of the 40 best central midfielders in the world. Possessing Juninho or Dax isn't enough to pass up Schweinsteiger, this does make the Dax trade silly. That 400K in GAM could be used elsewhere.

I'm guessing they'll go with a highly regressive style of 4-3-3 with Dax and Juninho holding and Bastian as more of a CAM.

So I honestly have never felt so nervous for the US heading into what should have been a slam dunk win.

Missing Yedlin, Johnson, Wood, and possibly Morris is crushing. Especially considering Jozy could ruin his hamstring on a moment's notice and Dempsey is just coming back from a heart condition absence so you have to assume he's not form fit.

The only prayer I see for the USMNT is to go with a 3-6-1

CB - Cameron
CB - Brooks
CB - Omar/Zimmerman (whoever looks better, either will struggle compared to their partners)
LWB - Villafana
RWB - Zusi
CDM - Bradley
RM - Nagbe
CAM - Sacha
LM - Pulisic
ST - Jozy

Only other option I can kinda see is the Cameron at RB

RB - Cameron
CB - Brooks
CB - Gonzalez/Zimmerman
LB - VIllafana
RM - Bedoya
CM - Bradley
CM - Jones
LM - Pulisica
CAM - Nagbe
St - Jozy

My original idea was a 4-3-3 with Morris as a winger, but if he can't go we're in trouble. At least we'll be able to bring Dempsey off the bench. Sadly I think we'll stick with the 4-4-2 with Nagbe out wide which has been a problem with him in the past and Dempsey striking when he may not be fit.
