I've just been gifted 2 oz. each of Chinook, Columbus, Crystal and Cascade hops, and can't decide what to do with them. I'm a new brewer thinking of trying my first all grain batch, but am open to extract recipes. Any suggestions?

These things are burning a hole in my freezer, so to speak. I can't stop thinking about making beer with them but don't really have the experience or know-how to come up with my own recipe.

Thanks!

They're begging to be made into a nice imperial IPA. :)

If you're into that sort of thing, that is. :mug:

Actually, I was thinking about making an IPA but am not sure what combination of the hops I have will work best. Any recipes in mind?

IPA?

Something like this would be nice:

5 gallons
12 pounds 2-Row Pale Malt (US)
.5 pounds Crystal 40
.75 oz Columbus (14.00%) 60 min
.5 oz Chinook (13.00%) 15 min
.5 oz Cascade (5.50%) 5 min
.5 oz Cascade (5.50%) 0 min
1 oz Cascade (5.50%) dry hop

Mash at 152F.

Toss in a starter of Cal Ale yeast and you're set.

Adjust those hops amounts based on your actual alpha%.

At 70% efficiency, that'll be about 6% abv, 55 IBUs (Rager), 6.6 SRM.

You could sub more Cascade for the Chinook if you have enough. (Edit: Looking back at your post, I guess you don't.)

Thanks for the replies. Both those recipes sound delicious. Matt, do you have any suggestions as to how I might tweak that recipe for the hops that I do have? I'd be making a 5 gal batch.

Sure. I just scaled it for you, to 5 gallons, assuming 70% efficiency. You'll have to tweak it from here for your hops, as the Alpha Acids won't be the same. If you don't already have it, I suggest downloading the trial of Beer Smith, which will make it easy for you to tweak this.

Hops are in grams, as it's much easier to measure than weird oz amounts. But those hop amounts all add up to 2 oz or less for each hop. No cascade in this beer though.
