You've got Pliny? I've been chugging on stone ruination, maines lunch, and any other super hop I can find. Sad you have Pliny and I don't. My lazy friends haven't shipped me any so I cant share or give ya some. :(

So, my brother-in-law sent me a link to Sarah Vowell talking on The Daily Show. I like Sarah Vowell, she's smart and she's funny, love her on This American Life, I've read her books.

But, whenever I see her, all I can think of...

She looks like a white, female, non-football-playing Warrick Dunn.

Am I insane?

I've got to say...

I'm OK with Bobby V as Red Sox manager (sounds like it's all but official). I know it'll end badly... I know. But, I think they need a guy that's got a little force of personality behind him. Plus, most of the complaints about him seem to be from media folks who didn't like that he wouldn't suck their balls.

Really like reading this today:

As Valentine emerged as a managerial candidate, some Red Sox players have been upset; they've been grumbling to each other, through texts and phone calls. Maybe it's because they heard Bobby critique their play on the air. Maybe they haven't liked his tone. Maybe they haven't liked his smile. Maybe they've heard bad things. And the fact is they had no power to do anything about it, because the September collapse completely undercut the credibility of the Red Sox players. If one of them had called the front office to register concerns about Valentine, they might've heard laughter on the other end of the line. The Boston players had complete control of the clubhouse in 2011, and we know what happened.

Not happy about having Valentine as your manager? Not happy with having an adult in charge? GOOD. ****ing children.

This place is too ****ing quiet.

First brew session in a few months tomorrow. What to brew - a winter-wheat (a little Munich, a little sweet, some grains of paradise), or a Citra pale ale/IPA? I've got ingredients for either, but not the time for both. Thinking the wheat, because it's getting ****ing cold and I've got IPAs around, but I'm really anxious to give the Citra a go.

Votes?

Well, went with the wheat because... **** it, it's a little different. Using a little munich (2#), a couple of C60, a half-pound of crystal wheat (never used this before; tastes exactly like Grape Nuts). Northern Brewer to ~35IBUs. OG, shooting for a little north of 1.060. Base malts split better pale and wheat, of course. A little sweet orange peel, a little seeds of paradise to be added with five minutes left in the boil. Did a small decoction because... **** it, they're fun and the weather is perfect for brewing.

Ugh, my burner is about shot. Think it's full of rust and gunk. Can barely get it going, or it blows itself out. So, taking forever to come to a boil. Think I'm going to soak it in oven cleaner for a while.

Oven cleaner takes off rust? I didn't know that. When my jet burners gotten rusty in the past I've just taken it apart and bashed the parts with a persuader (hammer) to knock of the loose stuff then wire brushed the rest.

Dakota and I will be out there first big dump in Feb. Cough cough. I can feel something coming on. I might need to be off for a day or two. (looking at the westher channel) Cough cough. Oh ya. I definitely need tomorrow off.

That sounds like a plan. The beer sounds tasty too. I need to get some brake cleaner in my burners too. I haven't heard of oven cleaner but it seems like it would work too. Drinking an ESB now, bottled 9 gallons on cider today. I have about 18 cases right now so I may be taking a break till I can make my single tier. I made the plans have a little scrap to get me started but need a welder.

It's not just rust, there's three years worth of boilovers in there, too. Basically I need to find the nastiest chemicals I can find and let it soak for a bit. Just glad I wasn't doing an IPA today, I'm not sure what kind of hop extraction I ended up with.

Put it in the oven on self clean.

The more I think about it, the more I think it's got to be rust that's clogging up the works. I mean, it does still work, so it's still burning at a bazillion degrees, you'd think any organic matter would get burned up.

I've got some CLR kicking around, I'll start with a soak in that and then try and find something to clean out the orifices. I hear porn stars use baby wipes for that purpose.
