Very clever, but a long way to go before it becomes practical. Need to get the useful light output to last 8+ hours, up from the "about 1 hour" they have achieved so far. The ability to switch on/off would also be useful. And you will never get more light out than you put in.

When I'm writing code, I use more pluses than minuses (aka hyphens). Dealing with text or numbers in other contexts, quite strongly the reverse.I dunno about your keyboard, but on mine, although "+" and "-" are right next to each other, one of them requires a shift. Cmon keyboard design jerks. (I have a tenkeyless - no keypad, so maybe I'm missing out on something ob).
I recall that my dad's old typewriter had a couple keys where you could swap out the key caps and "type dies" (or whatever you'd call the hammer ends of the arms that whack the print ribbon) so that you could select from several different special symbols / characters.A 3/4 key? That's different...
