Hi guys just kegged my st peters cream stout. I have purchased as stout tap as shown in picture. I also bought this small shank as you can see in the picture. When I came to clean my lines out with sanitiser water just came out the tap without even pressing the tap handle down. I took the tap off and found it was pissing out the shank. Seem as there is no valve or stoppage coming from the shank or the tap is this normal? Any one else had this problem? would anyome know how to solve seems very odd.

Many thanks

Gareth

Where did you get the faucet from?? You could take it apart and see if the insides match up with the parts diagram for the type.

BTW, I have four vertical stout faucets on my keezer currently. None of them do what you said yours does. Either you got a defective one, or if you bought it (ebay?) used, the seller screwed you over by ripping the guts out.

HUGE red flag on that seller...

The item selling for about 2/3 ($52 USD) of the lowest price I've seen it at (from a reputable seller) I'm not surprised it's NFG. I'd get them to either give a refund, or send a working replacement to you ASAP.

May have saved in the middle of the tap it screws up and down i belive may be you can adjust this. Hopefully you can. Must screw valve up and down with the spring. On nightshift tonight so will try tomorrow. It screwed and just stopped. If this is it should tell you this. Will update you tomorrow.

when I blow down nothing comes out. When I open tap and blow its blows out hopefully sorted. I always said this these beers taps so expensive 😫 it's ridiculous.

What does "I took the tap off and found it was pissing out the shank." mean?
I'm confused as to where the leak is actually located.

Anyway, depending on the faucet design there's either a shaft with a pair of O-rings that controls the flow, or alternatively, there is a rubber diaphragm (true of Micromatic stout faucets) that looks like this:

O-rings can be damaged or missing...and that diaphragm can breach with wear (bt/dt, had the faucet erupt vertically back through the mechanics - very exciting :))

Here's a video showing how to take apart the most common stout faucet design...

Cheers!

I've spent no more than $80 USD on a full stainless stout faucet (vertical model) from either MoreBeer or Keg Connection. Zero issues with any of those. IMO/IME, when you skinflint trying to get something for a fraction of the price, there's a reason why the item is listing for so much less.

As I mentioned, take the thing apart and make sure it contains all the parts it should and there's nothing damaged (as day_tripper mentioned).

I'd also wonder if the thing really IS stainless steel at that price.

Hi guys, quick up date. Thanks for the great support much appreciated. Tap sorted it was just my stupidly, well also the fact that there was no instruction. It screws apart in the middle which I was unaware. I have noticed it was not screws down tight enough allow the valve pin to close and seals to sit tight. Now working spot on. Good to know you guys have found these stout taps as I could not find or just too expensive. I belive the tap I have is good quality 👌. Just would of be good to see instructions on how it works.
