hello all,

i have a problem. i ferment my wort in a bucket, in the bath, so that once its all done and sat for a couple weeks i fill the bath up with cold water and use 2l bottles as ice cubes to try and cold crash it. problem is once i have done this i have to move the bucket to higher place so i can syphone it to bottles.
which obviously then makes the cold crashing almost pointless as i disturb it all again when i move it

so would this work? so i dont have to move the bucket?

or is there somthing better out there?

thanks!

I applaud your innovative work around.
But doubt your getting the fermented beer and bucket to a cold enough temp to effect "Cold Crashing".
Opinions very, but you commonly you see 34f deg or so for several days cited as what is needed to accomplishing cold crashing a beer prior to bottling or kegging.

Second... if the action of just moving the bucket from tub to counter top (or wherever you place it to bottle) is enough to really dust up the yeast cake... again, I think your not really cold crashing cold enough..to really see the benefits.

I know after I have cold crashed my fermentors for 4-7 days at 34 deg... I would have to try very hard to get much at all from the yeast cake to disperse in the beer during movement to bottling area. Then again, Im not climbing stars, moving to or from the garage, outbuilding..so that may be the difference.

Lastly, try racking the beer to a bottling bucket, not sure how you are priming the beer and racking from the fermentor to bottle (carb drops or pouring sugar directly into the bottle???) But you may have better lock if you gently lift the bucket from the tub to a higher location (even the rim of the tub would work) and siphon into a bottling bucket.... leaving behind all the sediment. Then move your bottling bucket to your bottling area, and just drain it in to each bottle using a filling cane.

ah that annoying haha. i have only tired that method once and that was with my last batch. i just dont have any other way of bring the temp down.

and yeah im currently using carb drops for priming. i have thought about using a bottling bucket but chose not to due to extra mess and sanitizing.

i wish i had the space for a mini fridge!
