SWMBO doesnt like IPAs

My Wife drank Miller Lite when we first met and she did for a long time. She started drinking pale ales and now she loves dry, resiny IPA's. The hardest part was for her to get used to the higher abv. Even beers at 6% gave her a hard next morning after only having 2 or 3. I guess when you're used to 4.2% bees drinking a 6% IPA is a big change.

Now, after having a baby and nursing for a year, she still drinks IPA's but can only have 2 or 3 or she'll pay for it the next day. She seems more sensitive to alcohol after not having any for 22 months. I'm happy though that she likes to try new beers and talk about them. She also loves hot wings and football! :rockin:

Yeah, my fiancee only likes stouts and porters--nothing else, hoppy or not. Since I've thus far managed to keep this hobby friction-free in the household, and have every intention of keeping it that way for as long as I possibly can, working her favored styles into regular rotation seems like an absolute no-brainer. I've got about 100 bottles of milk stout conditioning as we speak, in fact, and she goes through them slowly. Luckily, I love these styles too, so it's win-win.

With that need met for several months, this weekend's brew will be all me. A nice amber sounds about right.

SWMBO requests that I brew her things (Make a blonde ale! Make a DIPA!) but when I do, she only drinks a few, then forgets about it.

I think she just like the concept of me brewing things for her.

Of course she doesn't like IPAs. Everyone knows that the best beer ever brewed in the entire world was spice ale infused with kitchen tiles. Gary Oak read it in a book once, so why would SWMBO waste her time with anything less than the best?

My wife doesn't like IPAs either. Whenever I make them I have to drink the whole keg by myself. I think I'm missing the problem here.

Neither does mine, however with a heavy emphasis on hopstand additions, Ive gotten her to enjoy beers with up to 20oz of hops. I just didnt tell her it was an IPA. Its all about preconceptions and too much bittering hops with regard to people bitching about IPAs

I've got a man card and yet still obey mine, it's called compromise. She lets me talk about beer and convince her to brew stuff, I in return go along with her hobbies. If I was just hoping for someone to sleep with, but do nothing else with, I wouldn't have made her my wife.
It's lame when people try to sound so manly by claiming to a bunch of strangers that they don't obey their SO. But not as lame about complaining about acronyms and styles that everyone loves.

I'm not sure exactly what is lame. The reason for posting this thread/topic or my comment.

For the record, SWMBO drinks the IPAs I brew. And doesn't complain.

I used to drink only IPA, when I was much younger. Now I brew ales and stouts only. My SWMBO doesn't like everything that's brewed, but as long as there is something she likes, or I am willing to buy it at the store, everyone is happy.

I have a friend who only drinks IPA. He keeps me supplied with empty bottles of Sierra Nevada and Lagunitas, and I brew him and occasional IPA. It's a symbiotic relationship.

You do what you gotta do to keep on brewing!

That all depends on your preferences. I prefer dry-tiling with whole tiles, not pellets, leading to a more mild and natural flavor. The smaller ones work better for more surface area, overall lending to less time needed. But I prefer drinking my dry-tiled beers as early as possible while the kitchen flavor and aroma is nice and strong.
