Supposed to have made a 6.5 gallon batch and ended up near 8.

I only added enough water to make a 6 and a half gallon batch. I did a full boil with a late malt extract addition. But after I added the lastr addition the boil increased in volume...something I should have thought was going to happen but didnt. And I ended up with 8 gallons of brew...is this going to seriously affect my brew or is LME volume something most people take into account?

I would guess that your OG will be lower than expected and the yeast my not have much to chomp on.

What was your estimated and actual OG's?

I highly doubt you added a full two gallons of LME so something is seriously wrong in your process, perhaps you can run through your recipe and volumes for us. How did the boil go and for how long. How much did you start your boil with? How long did you boil before your late addition, was it a rolling boil, vigorous? Too many unknowns right now.

Did you add 1 1/2 gallons of LME? Are you sure you measured your water correctly? (not saying you didn't but it happens)

Assuming your numbers are correct, you dilluted everything about 19%. If you were aiming for a 6% ABV beer, you'll end up around 4.9%. If you were shooting for 30 IBU, that would drop you to 24 IBU.

Not as vigorous as I would've liked. Took 2 hours to come to a boil. Not as many btus on the range indoors. Did a 60 min boil. But I measured from spring water bottles. Did a late addition of lame that was 5 lb 11 oz.

It took 2 hours to come to a boil and then you actually boiled (weakly) for another 60 minutes. Once you added the LME did it ever come back to a boil??

It sounds as though you probably got almost no boil off initially and then even less once the LME went in so you got a lot more wort then anticipated.

Also, how did you cool the wort down, immersion chiller? If so is it possible it's leaking? There are many threads here about people who discovered the IC leaks during the chill and increases their volume unexpectedly.

Yes it did it took about 10. Min. Also it seems my hops were negatively affected. The hippiness comes through weakly.
