Hi all-

Love the forum. Brewing my second batch now as i type, waiting for my water to come up for steeping. As Im waiting I notived my thermometer doe not go bewlo 100 degrees, so when I cool my wort I kind of have to eyeball when to pitch. Any ideas as to where I can get a great thermomter to use for the boil and cool down?? Thanks a lot!

I had one of those probe style ones, worked great until moisture from the mash got into the braided part and then made its way to the sensor inside the probe and shorted it out, I am now back to the basic dial ones for now. search for a thread on waterproofing the probe thermometer, I will be doing that to my new one eventually.

I don't need a thermometer to know my wort is boiling, TYVM.

I use a fermometer on my kettle to gauge cooling. It goes on after the kettle feels cool to the touch. This way, I don't have to open the lid or even have a probe going into the kettle.

I use one of these. Has a timer to time your brew time. The picture makes the probe not look very long when in reallity its got like 4 feet cord on it.

I just grabbed the amazon link to show you but i bought it at the local bed bath and beyond.

I've had that exact Taylor model for years and years and it only recently stopped working. So thanks for the link because I need another for cooking too.

Ordered one of these to have a good benchmark: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/12-laboratory-thermometer.html
