I'm sure i will run across the reasoning for this but figured i'd throw it out there.
I received a brew kit for x-mas. Have only brewed 1 batch so far. (roid rage ipa pretty good for a first timer) I'm in the process of finishing my basement and am going to incorporate a "mini" keg fridge set up and I noticed some people are actually using small freezers. I'm sure all this will become clear to me as i scan these forum pages. What are the advantages of a mini freezer over a small fridge set up that could accomidate 2-5gal kegs? I noticed this in a string (77pages) pertaining to someone building thier bar.
Before designing basement bar just want to make sure I do not design it around one vs. the other and regret it later:smack: after i'm a little more "edumicated". I'm planning a 2 tapper set up?
Just curious
Thanks in advance for your thaughts/ideas

Besides having a awesome Keezer they save a heck of a lot of space. If you want two 5 gallon keg plus co2 lot better looking and clean. If you buy a 2 keg kegarator it's gonna be crazy expensive and you can can't customize it.

The crazy expensive is correct I git 4 kegs, line, co2 tank and a freezer for 400. You can find freezers on Craig's list for really cheap if you look. Not only that but keezers give you the option of expanding to more kegs if you want were kegerators cab only expand to 2.

best to get one that can fit multiple ones, and you can always add extra hose, taps, secondary regulators, etc in the future.. i have one that currently holds 3 but will have a 4th someday when i get enough money to do a nitro tap (you can see it in my signature)

It is also extremely inexpensive to run a deep freeze with a temp controller. Average yearly cost on one is about $30.
A fridge will average about $20 a month. Generally a deep freeze has more insulation. I believe that is why they are so popular.

Thank you much I'm pretty sure ive been swayed. 100% sure i will have many more ?s in the near future.
I have done a little wood working in the past so wheels are turning and ideas flying
And since i many moons ago, started my house on fire with fish tank accessories, know my limitations when wires are involved.
Thanks again

You do not need to wire a temperature controller or even buy one for that matter. Many freezers have thermostats that can be adjusted. There is a thread on his to adjust it somewhere in these forums. Next time I get to a computer I will try to find it for you.

Akillys thanks for the link. I think it would be helpful to most newbies and save a few bucks too. You should have saw look on the face of the guy at HD when i asked him if it was ok to start taking a new freezer apart in the isle. There was another couple there listening in and they were there looking for " keg" fridge for home brew. Needless to say HBT probably has a new follower by now. Thanks again

No problem. My freezer didn't look like it had one which I posted on that thread. Since then I have found two holes on the side of the thermostat. One says cut in and one says cut out. I'm messing with it to try to control the temp on my freezer. Glad I could help.
