Stuck carboy stopper

Just wrapped up a batch of pale ale when I dropped my carboy on its head, luckily it didn't break, but it did press the rubber stopper in flush with the rim. I can't get it out.

Tricks of the trade anyone?

If not, I am dropping it in and sanitizing my next batch really well?

I have used a screwdriver to pry one off. It ruined the stopper but a least it was not at the bottom of the carboy.

You might take an old screwdriver small enough to fit through the hole and bend it 90 degrees. Stick it through the hole and try to pull it that way. Another way would be to take a small rod or something and tie a string in the middle, drop it through the hole and pull it up.

Stick a small sharp knife into the hole and cut the stopper in half.

I vote this. I used a knife to try and pry mine out once. Tore the whole inside of the carboy neck up. Better to spend 2-3 bucks on a stopper then need a whole new carboy cuz the neck is cut up and a haven for bacteria to hide in.

I cut a finishing nail down, tie a string in the middle of it, push it all the way through the hole, and pull string to remove it.

If you can't hold a empty carboy your never moving a full one. Others here have used this and it works, if you can pick-up an empty carboy
