Is it ok to store a bunch of priming sugar in a tupperware container if I sanitize it first? or is it better to keep them in the plastic pouches they come in? sometimes I use a little more than one pouch and I have one opened, not sure how to store the extra...

thanks.

Yeah it will be alright, I've got a bag of corn sugar I've bunged in an old ice cream tub since last month and it's been fine, just as long as the container is clean, I don't think there's any need for sterilization.

You should be boiling your priming sugar in some water before you add it anyway so keeping sanitized in storage should not be an issue.

DHNCY is right... Due to the fact that your pasteur'ing your priming sugar, your in good shape as far as contamination is concerned... I personally have found an awsoem alternative to priming sugar... I use honey for all of my primers now... It's easy to find, and gives the beer a little flavor in the process...

really? and do you get the same amount of carbonation? How much honey do you use for a 5 gallan batch???

There's a website which I have found really helpful when it comes to calculating carbonation:

http://hbd.org/cgi-bin/recipator/recipator/carbonation.html

Calculates for honey as well. I may try using honey when bottling my next batch, does it matter what type of honey you use? Like fresh honey, or store bought honey (I assume it's pasteurized or something?)

I normally go to Krogers and get a container of the clover honey... Use the calculator on the link above for the level of carbonation that you want... I think (and this is just a ruff estimate) 4 cups of water one cup of honey. I boil it for about 15 minutes skimming the protein off of the top of the water. After the boil, I let it cool, dump it into the bottling bucket, transfer the wort and bottle up accordingly...

I did alot of research on the forum and have found it's like 50-50 of people who like honey and who stick with sugar... I have used both and honey is just easier for me to use... <shrug>

Good luck and have a home brew for fun!!!
