I buy in bulk and use vacuum sealer to seal up unused hops and throw them in the freezer. If you brew often or lots of hoppy beers, the food saver vacuum is worth every penny. Can't beat the price of bulk hops - save $1.00+ per oz!!!

Definitely keep them in the freezer though

I keep my hop packets in a zip lock freezer bag on that little shelf above the ice maker. Outta the way of other bulky items being shifted around in there.

+1 for Vacuum sealed and in the freezer. I usually buy a pound at a time. I break it up into each individual batch, vac seal and in the freezer.

definitely vacuum seal and put in freezer to make them last. I buy by the pound and break them into 1oz vacuum seal bags

I Keep them in the freexer, once opened I put them in ball jars ( 1lb pellets just about fits a quart) then use the accessory for canning jars to seal, then freeze. Works great and reusable. I do the same for DME for starters/carbing and acid malt.

What's the best vacuum sealer out there?

I just started to buy bulk hops and can see the need for one.
Plus I'm sure Mrs. Bob could use it too.

I use a Food Saver brand one. They offer an accessory to use on canning jars that I have yet to buy since I have plenty of the "bags." Easy to use and makes hop purchases way better. I pay about $.50/ oz for hops on group buys.

How do the rolls work?

You cut the sizes, or does it?

The "bags" come as a roll. You cut off the desired length, then seal one end. Put your hops in and vacuum and seal the other end. It's so easy my 70 year old father taught me how to use it.

The Food Saver brand gets most of the attention but I ended up buying a "Seal-a-meal" made by Rival:

It got better ratings at a few sites and was quite a bit cheaper. I have been happy with it so far. The very best sealers are up in the several hundred $ range such as the ones made by Weston.

I do this plus add co2 to the jar then vacuum...they last a long time, but YMMV
