Dahlonega Georgia,
I purchased the 8 in large version to use in my boil kettle (20 gal). I through all my hops inside the spider, the when I circulate the boil to cool, I run out through the spyder to catch all the break material. Anyone else tried this?

No.

I just got mine.

How did that work?

How far from the bottom of the kettle is your spider suspended? I only have about 1-1/5 inches clearance. I'm thinking that I need to do some trimming.

I cut mine too about 2" from the bottom. It works great, to great sometimes. If I use pellet hops it can tend to clog some. On big late addition hoppy beers, I will take it out of the pot, clean it and then put it back for the late hops. Love it.

Good idea. Thanks!

Mine plugged up while I was recirculating at end of boil. Chocolate nibs and semisweet squares and coffee and 11oz hops created a mass of slag that wouldn't drain. Next time I'll remove the spider and clean before the steeping hops and other late additions.
