A local brew pub has their bar set up kind of like that the guy actually cut squares of SS and ran over the edges with a grinder to give them depth it looks really cool i think the main thing to consider is whether or not it matches the rest of the bar. SS surrounded by light colors doesn't pop as much as a the stainless tiles with a dark wood trim would i envision the tiles laid out in a brick type fashion and something darker than chestnut trimmed around the edges. and a dark bottom to the bar. if your paying 1+ a tile than they should definitely be the center piece. I have used those exact tiles in my kitchen, and the job turned out great.
They are very easy to work with, but I would like to give you a couple tips.
Use liquid nails to apply them. A dab in each corner of the tile and one in the center. Push on the outside corners of the tile to set. Don't push on the center. You can deform the tile if you push too hard in the center.
Paint the walls behind the tile a color that will blend with the tile, like gray if your installing stainless. That is if you are not going to grout in between the tiles. I didn't. They look really good butt together with no grout line.
You may have to cut some tiles around the bottom of your cabinets or windows.
If so you'll need a band saw. A bench top band saw from Home Depot works pretty good. About a hundred bucks. Just be sure to buy 2 or 3 (metal cutting)blades. If this is going to be a large job buy 4 or 5. Stainless steel will wear those blades out.
Well I hope this helps.

I think that's a bad ass idea. I would assume you wouldn't need more than say.. 200 tiles depending on your job size; but remember the underlying costs. Tiles, whether they be stainless/rock etc are heavy... What's the shipping cost for them? I remember that I was going to use granite tile and the shipping cost more than the damn granite did! Just a thought brother. Good luck with the bar. Post pictures!

Disregard my last. I checked the shipping for you. You can get 200 tiles shipped for as little as $23.00 for USPS standard. I say do it. Outstanding accent for such a small investment!

I'm going with some stainless subway tiles. Will post when done and thanks for the encouragement. Hopefully it'll look good, but I know the beer will be tasting fine.

In case anyone is considering stainless tiles for a backsplash, here's how mine look so far. Not the greatest picture as I used my phone, but it gives you the idea.

I like how it's going. I'm going to do the sides even with the last line of the backsplash just above the taps and do a chalkboard above to list what's on tap.

What do you think?

I finished with the tiles. Here's a pic.

I have enough tiles to do one more row. SWMBO thinks this would be too high up (almost halfway). I'm not sure myself. If you have an opinion on it, let me know.

Thanks for all the help, guys. Could never have done it without the great people on this board. Cheers!:mug:

I don't think you need another row above this one. I'm not sure how you're going as far as deco in the room, but you could put a sign or something above the taps. What are you using as far as a drip tray/mat?

I bought the cheapo stainless drip tray from barproducts.com. But I'm considering going without a drip tray and just keeping a rag handy. I finished the bar top with a flood coat of pourable resin, so it can take the spills. Not sure about the tray.

Actually, above the bar I'm planning to paint on a chalkboard. Thanks for the opinion, man. It's helpful.
