I recently bought this on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/your-acco...1064209&returnSummaryId=&shipmentId=DxHhGQyRN

The braid is super flimsy. I was expecting a viagra-stiff braid and I ended up with a Chinese finger trap.

Does anyone have any braids they can recommend by link or by brand? If not, I may choose to get a bazooka braid + the required coupling. It'd be like $15, so not a huge deal. But If there's a SS washer braid that's stronger, please let me know. I'm just waiting on this and my order of grains to start all grain brewing.

false bottom >> bazooka > braided supply line. Believe me, I've used all of them.

They all work, but the supply line would sometimes kink and become an issue if I wasn't careful when stirring them mash. Then I bend the bazooka, again while stirring. The false bottom has been flawless.

Thanks a lot. With the price of false bottoms and the state of my finances I'd probably have to try building this diy false bottom... It's that or the bazooka... So now it's a personal decision between my desire to all grain RIGHT NOW and starting an entire other project before finishing my mash tun project

Edit: forgot to link the build

There's this guy named Steve. Long story short, a drink at this local Tex-Mex joint is named after him. It consists of lots of tequila, a splash of margarita mix, and it's topped with everclear. This guy's drink, and a Wisconsin made beer called Texas Frio convinced me not to worry about building things and that I can afford to buy the bazooka tube and a 1/2" SS coupler.

I used this one:

It takes a beating and has never kinked, collapsed or given a stuck sparge.

Thanks Cpt. 2-L8.

But for real, I appreciate the input. Once I beat my bazooka to pieces I'll consider this or buying a false bottom.

Ah but have you used them all together?
Seriously, I do and I've been doing g it for over 3 years now and never had a stuck sparge or grain get into my small p38 DC pumps..
The different levels of filtering work as a multistage filter.i out the braided section inside of my bazooka tube and it catches the finer stuff.

You really want the big water heater hoses and not the little toilet/sink/dishwasher ones.

Agreed, washing machine size is kinda in between, I've had good luck with that. Found two used ones in stock, so that's enough for like 8 mash tun braids.

Haha, no, but I like the way you think!

When I first started using the jaybird false bottom, I had stuck sparges. But after some painful inspection, I determined it wasn't the bottom but 1) the pickup tube getting pressed into the bottom of my keggle, and 2) the output ball valve and camlocks getting clogged.

I cut a slant on the end of the pickup tube to solve that problem. I changed the fittings out in my tubing to 5/8" (from 1/2"). No more problems.

My braid was SS... Just realized my original link doesn't work. Just a crappy braid. The brand is Lasco, which I thought was a good one to use, based on others' reviews
