Quick Question,

with the FTSs chilling accessory on the Brew Bucket, would one be able to transfer hot wort from kettle into it and chill it down to pitching temp with the FTSs? I don't think it was ever intended to work this way, but i am curious if anyone has tried it.

My only reservations i would think are that it would take longer to chill due to the smaller coil, and maybe mess up the thermometer?

Yes and yes. The chiller coil is only meant to keep the wort chilled for fermentation temperature. Regardless if you running a glycol chiller or ice bucket chiller, it will take a strain to cool such hot wort. An immersion chiller is a better option cooling with ground water, perhaps running your ground water to a chiller would be the better option.

Disclaimer- ive never used an fts or brew bucket.

But- from what ive seen of them the contraption IS an immersion chiller. So no reason it cant be used for knockdown.

But if you have a glycol unit you can damage it by trying to cool excessively hot liquid.

If groundwater is too warm then youll have to do a two stage cooling. First with ground water, then ice water or glycol to finish.

Whether that’s practical or impractical with the fts i have no idea. Guess it depends on whether you use glycol or water/ice for cooling. Maybe thats what beeredcalavera was implying. But technically speaking, yes its possible.

As for thermometer, no idea. SS should have specs on it you can look up.
