Hey everyone~

I brewed a Nut Brown Ale extract kit with steeping grains (northern brewers) on Tue (2-6-07) and my OG was about 1.046-1.044. 20 hours to start the blow-off and today there is very little activity, and it is moderatly clear! I was curious about the S.G. so I just checked it an it was at 1.006. ( i made sure there was no outside infulence on the reading i.e. stuck to the side).... oo yeah our house is warm... about 72 degrees! My question is can I or should I bottle today? I don't mind if it clears in the bottle! And it tasted ok today!

You could - if you're certain fermentation is done. I'd leave it for a couple of more days, and take another hydro reading. If it's the same as you got already it's done - if it's dropped more, it's not yet.

do you think it will get much more below 1.006

It sounds like you're done - but fermentation is a fickle thing... a little time never hurts on any phase of it. I wouldn't think it would go much lower, but I'd let the beer tell me when it's ready (the extra reading in a day or two).

Thanks for the rplys I will hang out and check it in a few days!

Thanks again

You don't want your beer to go any lower than 1006. The only reason to wait is for clarity.
At 1006 it is going to taste and feel like Bud/Miller/Coors light.

I thought 1.006 was a little low as well but i will check some and see what the beer wants..... what would happen if I would bottle soon.... I wouldn't expect it to go much lower.....like orfy said.... water!

Come on guys. 1.006

What do you want water?

It is over done!!!!!!!

I was thinking that, too - but I'm still a NOOB so I second guess myself on everything. Measure twice, cut once ;)

At 1006 all that will happen if you bottle too soon is you'll loose ot on some clearing of the beer.
Are you sure you've adjusted your reading for temperature. What was the recipe and what was the yeast.
