Hello all, I've always been really interested in colonial brewing, and I'm debating whether to plant a small barley patch on our farm this spring. I've already malted and roasted grains, and we have wild hops in our backyard. I saw one thread on the subject but didn't see much in updates. How much seed would I plant per an acre of land? What kind of yield should I expect? Any barley growing suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Wow. Good luck on finding the information you're searching for. I have great respect for chefs that use the Charlie Trotter, "Nose to tail" approach to cooking and sourcing local foods for their restaurants, so something like this with brewing deserves respect (even if it fails miserably).

If it were me (and believe me, I know nothing of farming), i'd probably call your local farm extension bureau and see what they can recommend for your area. Good luck!

Asking any local farmers is a good idea. My stepdad has a farm and he always knows his "bushels per acre" yield for grains.
