I have been extract brewing for a while and i am looking to start AG soon. And[ I want to make sure that I have this correct in the easiest most basic sense

heat strike and sparge water
"dough in" grains and strike water
wait for (how long?)(45 min-hour?)
drain a pitcher or so pour back on top of mash(vorlauf?)
drain a bunch from mash tun into kettle(first Runnings?)
pour sparge waterover grains(~180*?)
let sit for how long?
drain more back into kettle(second Runnings)?
then boil as if i was doing a full extract brew

Pretty much! Bobby_M has a solid write up on it that I recommend reading here

thank you so much I just bookmarked it. many of the "tutorials" that are sticky are just pictures with little to no explanation or directions. Personally I need a basic list that I can build off of.

As did I when i first started. I also watched the videos from this guy on youtube that he made for his amarillo steam beer. It was really helpful to see it all done, rather then read about it. I don't recommend sparging the way he does it. He is basically fly sparging with a spoon and slowly pouring... way too much time/effort. Go with a batch sparging approach unless you have a more automated fly sparge contraption.

If you're using multiple vessels you'd heat strike water first, to well over the mash temp, add to mash-tun, stir-down to strike temp, dough-in, stir-down more if necessary, cover, wait an hour.

While it's mashing, heat strike water so it's at 180ish (I go a little higher) by the time the mash is done. Drain a few pitchers slowly and gently pour back over mash through colander or by submersing pitcher and gently tilting it. You don't want to disrupt the grain bed at all during vorlauf.

Then drain off your first runnings into the boil kettle. Add your sparge water, stir, you can let rest if you want...I just start vorlauf pretty much right away, then empty remaining wort into BK, boil, add hops as needed, chill, pitch.
