Hello

I recently bought a 5.2 gallon Mash Tun, with the aim of making standard batches of all-grain, But my Brewpot is only 3 gallons. I had planned to use the brew-pot to boil the strike water and then add it to the MT, then drain it off into the Fermeting bucket, then add the sparging water to the tun, drain some of that into the fermenting bucket to cool whilst boiling half of it with my fixin's (Hops, spices and the like), Is this viable, or do I need to boil every drop?

Cheers

Ahh. Ok. Would it be detrimental to boil it in two batches in the same pot, one after the other?

This is fine to do two separate boils, just time consuming. You can also mash a stronger wort and top up with water post boil..not as efficient.

Your 3 gallon kettle is rather limiting for AG brewing. I would consider a second kettle, or preferably a larger, say ten gallon for five gallon batches.

+1.

"Time consuming" is an understatement. Especially when you add in chill time, assuming you're not using a dedicated chiller. I did one batch as a double boil single pot. Never again.

Thanks Very much for allyour advice. One more question: Would it be possible to use an electric heating element in a fermenting bucket to boil the wort, or would that cause problems?

I would be afraid that would make my beer taste like plastic. Not to mention God knows what kind of chemicals would leech into your beer.

Although it is a cool idea. I like the inventiveness
