Hey guys, I'm fairly certain I have a slow leak on my 15lb tank, now not my line setup, but the actual tank. I know this because I bought this tank to use to force carb beers and in the interim it just sat in a closet.

I carbed 5 or 6 beers off of it and then a buddy borrowed it for a few nights to dispense a keg or two, and then I got it back empty, his system had never been leaky before.

I filled it back up and let it just sit there for a week and a half, and went to use it and it's empty.

I don't know how to go about taking this apart or what to even check or where to start. It's one of those 15lb tanks with the plastic hood thing like you'd put on a dog, but for a handle.

Any help would be awesome.

Sat in closet... went to friend's house with gas... came back empty?

I would say the problem isn't with the tank. Easy enough to test though. Fill it up then spray it down with soapy water. The only places it could possibly leak though would be the valve itself or where the valve screws into the tank.

Right, the first time it went dry I just thought my neighbor burned through it on a leaky keg or whatever, but the second time it went dry, it never even got used.

I'll definitely try the soapy water trick. I was hoping there'd be some places to check before dropping the 30 bucks to fill it just to test it.

Are you sure it was all the way off? You could always just go to Airgas or somewhere and exchange tanks for a full one.

Another good option. If you use a local shop to refill maybe you could get them to toss a pound or two in it for a couple bucks so you could test it before filling it all the way.

That's an awesome idea, I'll use it as an excuse to hit the local brewery for their oktoberfest.

Thanks guys

I bought a refurb tank from Ebay, and it leaked where the valve connects to the tank.
When I took it in to get it filled, I told the guy at the shop, and he swapped it out. He just put a tag on it and put it with the other 20 or so other tanks in the repair pile.
