I know its only 11am, but I'm drinking the first bottle of my IPA because of a little accident. The bottles have been carbonating for 6 days, so I decided to look at them and turn one around a few times to watch the yeast float around, and when I turned the bottle upside down it made a fizzing noise, like the seal on the bottle just released. I checked the seal by twisting it by hand and broke the cap off with the neck from the bottle still attached and sliced my pointer finger pretty good. But I'm trying to look on the bright side, it only sliced through a old callus, it looks like a flapper(any climbers here?), and I get to try my delicious 'Slasher' IPA at 11 am on a MONDAY. :mug:

I'm also wondering what really happened, the seal between the cap and bottle seemed to be solid since it took the glass off with it. Has anyone else ever had defective bottles? Could the bottle have been cracking under the stress of carbonation when I flipped it over and that let the carbonation out? Do I just have gorrilla like hand strength and not know it? This was a bottle from Abita Brewery,

You probably cracked it when you attached the cap. I've had that happen 3 or 4 times across 60+ batches. Usually the top/neck just explode when I cap too hard.

Never experienced what happened to you. But I believe a laceration to the hand calls for a beer.

Since my girlfriend was doing the supposed heavy handed capping that night, I should just ask her to back off the steroids a bit? Thanks for the help. I just checked a few more of the beers and they seemed to be fine, and they didn't inflict any bodily harm.
