I know there's plenty of veterans on here, and some people who have taken the Siebel Courses. Does anyone know if the VA considers this a job training course and if they will pay for it under GI-Bill benefits?

I have 1 year left on my benefits and the web-based program they offer fits perfectly into this time frame. It would be awesome if I can get it through the GI Bill.

Yeah I checked the VA site and couldn't find anything. I also emailed Siebel but haven't heard anything back from them. I think I'm going to send them somemore emails to see if I can get a response. I really thought I'd get more bites here with the amount of people who have served and how many people have mentioned attending courses there.

Got a response:

Thanks for your interest in the Associate Program.

We don't qualify for the VA programs as we are a privately-owned trade school rather than a state-owned or accredited school. While I don't expect this to change soon, we do revisit the qualifications for compliance with the VA programs on a regular basis and hopefully we will qualify in the future.

I would need to know a bit more about your background and goals to know if the Associate Program would be a good fit for you at this time. Let me pose a few questions:

* What is your brewing-related experience to date? Please get into as much detail as possible.
* Do you have any training in the sciences related to brewing (chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology)?
* Which brewing-related books and materials have you read? Specific titles, please.
* Are you looking at this program primarily towards improving your personal brewing techniques, or do you think you will be pursuing a job in a commercial brewery in the near future?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

What about UC Davis, that seems more likely to qualify for the VA requirements.

Another option for you is to take a food science, biotech, microbiology, or chemistry degree. Then intern at a brewery. If you get a job you might be able to work your way into them paying your way at someplace like Siebel. Granted you'd have to be at a larger brewery.

I'm currently interning at a decent sized brew pub doing QC testing for them as a Biotech student concentrating in Food Safety and QC.

Edit: Ooh wait you said web based. Nevermind me!

Based on the recent changes to the GI bill I don't think they'll be covering non-accredited schools anytime soon. They do cover certification programs but you'd have to ask them more specifically.

I was actually thinking the opposite because of the new rules on certificate programs. I'd contact the VA directly if you want to know for sure. My benefits run out in January, so it's off the table for me anyway. I ended up switching to a state school and am working on a history degree concentrating on brewing.
