That is my guess. To keep the beer in the lines cool in the tower so you will not have a foamy first pour

I don't think I have ever seen one put in a box and ducted into the tower like that before. Reminds me of overclocking PC's back in the day.

USB computer cooling fan with a 12" piece of copper pipe along the beer lines to circulate cool air through the insulated tower to prevent foamy beer. I fastened it to the lid to eliminate possible kinks in flex tubing, increase floor space for kegs and eliminate any sort of electrical issues if a keg leaks and fills up the chest freezer.

Thank you for the explanation! I"m trying to put together a "wish list" for a kegerator build and this just made the list.

Those plugs are also little brushes to clean the taps with. Not necessarily these types of plugs, but, if you have cats, any plug is a must.

I bought those plugs with the brushes and now they're already starting to rust a little. Do you have this problem?

I bought those plugs with the brushes and now they're already starting to rust a little. Do you have this problem?

No rust. They get beer in them though. Mine I got from a restaurant supply. I believe the brushes are woven into stainless wire. I only got them because they were 4 bucks for a six pack.

Is the lid if yours heavy because cement coating? What did you use to skim the cement on so that it had the rough look?

There are only a few skim coats so it's not that heavy. The iron pipe makes up the bulk of the lid weight. Check this link for more info on the lid. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?p=6883899

Looks like a really convenient setup! No drain bin to clean and flushing lines should be a cinch!

Sorry, I guess that's not completely a positive thing. Less cleanup is good, less beer is bad.

Yeah, friggin last week my brother and his son were over and my brother goes, "hey son, check this out!" And he opened both taps for two seconds. I about had an anxiety attack. I'm getting grumpy right now just thinking about it. What a waste!

It really does make things easy though.

How do you guys store bottles in your fridges? I have no space for bottles other then the door and i worry about bottle falling when the door is opened.

Quick question. Are there significant advantages using a temp controlled freezer verses a fridge, and vice versa?

Depends what you are doing with it and how accurate you want your temp to be. For fermentation chamber and lagering you want to hold a steady temp. For dispensing it's not so crucial unless you want it to be. Some factory refrigerator thermostats allow quite a temperature swing 5 - 8 degrees. I had one that allowed 11 degrees probably needed a thermostat replacement.

One could argue that a freezer used at refrigerator temps might not have to work as hard. If so its a small difference.

Biggest difference is, if the freezer is of the chest variety, you got to hump your kegs up over the edge, where in a standup, the lifting and sorting of kegs is easier. Also chest freezers can have moisture problems when used at refrigerator temps. Nothing that cant be overcome.

There is really no difference. In either scenario you're gonna want to use a custom temp controller. Chest freezers have thicker insulation and don't have to cycle as much. Stand ups take up less space. But you can't really use a stand up refrigerator as a makeshift bar top or table.
