Hello, I was wondering if some people can point me in the right direction. I was looking to do a 1 gallon SHaME brew because I will have 2 lbs of my tons extra light DME and figured that should be plenty. I think I saw 1.5 lbs of dme per gallon somewhere. Basically I'm looking for advice on hop selection, yeast selection, and amount of dme to use, thanks!

Do you mean SMaSH?

I guess if you have light DME then all you need is to pick a hop and brew. What hops do you like or have on hand?

It sounds like you want someone to write your recipe. Very we'll, I accept.
1.1 lb of you DME would give you a gravity close to 1.050 in a one gallon batch. Hop it with a good American hop with about 6% aa, .13 oz @ 60 min 15 min and FO. This should give you a IBU of about 24.
Any American yeast would be appropriate. And if it finishes around 1.010 you would gave a find American pale ale to be proud of.
But you may be prouder if you allow your imagination to design your experiments and then post results on HBT to receive the kudos of you fellow hobbyists and perhaps inspire the next brewer who wants to use up leftover ingredients.

I dunno, I think SHaME (Single Hop and Malt Extract) has a ring to it. Could devote a Wall of SHaME to its innovators & devotees. SHaMEful brewers could then be proud of their accomplishments, rather than skulking, as they now do, in the shadows.

@Hello, I do not have any at the moment.

@captwalt, your right I should use my own. I think I will tweak what you said though. I do not know that much about different hops. I just brewed a NB cream ale and I should have tasted the hops ha. Other than that it's been years since I have brewed beer, so I'm def out of practice.

@hamaki, haha it def has a nice ring to it...The wall of SHaME. Hopefully this beer will make it on it.

I need to look into a hop guide I will check the forum later this evening.

I stumbled upon a podcast by Basic Brewing Video dated February 28th 2014 "Speedy Homebrewing" and they made a 1 gallon SMaSH/SHaME and added .75 gallons of water into to their kettle, added DME at boil, and made two hop additions. The first one was right at the start of the boil, and the last one at flameout. The kicker? From sanitation to cleanup was 53 minutes because they only did a 15 minute boil, so that is what I'm going to do.

So last night, 8/8, I made my SMaSH/SHaME pale ale. I used beersmith 2 to help out with the amount of DME to use and I used a ibu calculator (http://www.brewersfriend.com/ibu-calculator/) to figure out the hop additions. I couldn't get a accurate hydrometer reading but beersmith calculated a 1.050 OG. I added 1lb 5oz of Muntons Extra Light DME at and .35 oz of centennial hops at boil and boiled this for 15 min and added .15 oz at flame out. I cooled the wort with my wort chiller and added a smack pack of Wyeast 1056. This pale ale should be 30 IBU's. Although I didn't time myself, it took me 1 hour and 15 minutes roughly with cleanup.

I Checked on it this morning to find it foaming up out of the airlock. I tried to pull and spin the 3 piece airlock I had on it, and it snapped. Wouldn't budge. I tried using pliers to pull the rest out, but I didn't have luck. I sanitized and added a1 piece airlock and it fit inside the leftover airlock. I definitely made an error when I put the bung and air lock on, the bung was wet and when I put it inside the jug, it would pop out, so I pushed it farther in and it stayed but now I'm worried it will not come out easily.

I'd let it ferment out. You can worry about the bung after. Just make sure the airlocks doing its job.

I've pushed my bung into my gallon jugs multiple times, you'll be alright. Post here if you need help after fermentation!

And let me know how it tastes , I'm very interested in this quick brew.

That's a relief @bberg. I assumed since it was sanitized that I could push it through but was hesitant. I will def keep everyone posted on the taste. I'm excited to try it.

I think it has a great ring too, considering how easy it is to all-grain on that scale nowadays... the SHAME! I jest, of course.. :D

I realized today that I never updated this thread. I drank all six beers not long after they were bottled. I took pictures of what the ale looked like but unfortunately my computer isn't working at the moment to grab them. The ale tasted a little watery I'm terms of its body, but i enjoyed it. I would do a 5 gallon batch of this for a easy to drink session beer.
