Hey all,
I am looking for a little guidance on brewing a session IPA. I have seen some people recommend Maris Otter and some crystal for the grain bill. What do others think?
I typically brew using a partial mash; do I need extract for a 4% beer?
I have Cascade, Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial on hand: Chinook for bittering? I may split the batch and try some different dry hop combos. I will also add aroma hops after I have chilled below 180F.
Has anyone ever added grapefruit peel to a session? How much? Maybe I'll add it to the beer more heavily favoring Cascade/Chinook.
I will also use an English yeast: S-04?
Thanks guys

For the yeast I would however recommend Safale US-05, which attenuates better and will get you a drier beer.

As for the grainbill, I would only go for Maris Otter. You could add a bit of flaked wheat/barley for head retention or Carapils, but a cleaner grainbill, would help the hops shine thru.

I have never done extract or partial mash, so I do not have an answer for that.

Regarding the grapefruit part: you can take a look here: http://blog.kegoutlet.com/how-to-prepare-and-add-grapefruit-to-an-ipa/
