Well, this was my second batch of beer and my first adventure into kegging. I will say that it was easier that bottling. Things went ok, all-in-all, but I'm sure there were things that would have made my task smoother. This site has been a heck of a resource for brewing and kegging, thanks a ton!!!

My American Amber (which was actually a little too 'hoppy' for an amber) turned out good. I like a hoppy beer, so it isn't a big deal to me. It was a clear beer that had great color. From tasting my gravity sample, this batch is better than batch number one. Now, it's official, I'M ADDICTED!!!

Check out the whole process on my blog:

Thanks again for all of the tips.

Eric

welcome to the club, now you will be looking for a bigger fridge or keezer and more kegs. there nothing like having 4 batches kegged and waiting :rockin:

Kegging has worked well for me too. Once you know your kegs hold pressure well cleaning them is easy. Save some time by just racking into the keg instead of the bottling bucket. I like keg lube , it helps sealing up the poppets and the large o-ring.

yeah, i think i'll do that next time. if i decide to bottle any, i'll buy those bottle sugar drops instead of mixing the sugar in the bottling bucket.

thanks for the keglube tip, i'm gonna get some of that stuff before batch #3.

i believe the keg holds pressure pretty well, i haven't seen or heard a leak. however the bottle pressure dropped a bit since it's in the fridge with the keg, but from reading on HBT that's normal. it's reading 500 psi (or it was last night before going to bed).

I checked out your blog. You have a pretty sweet setup. I liked the brew table. Seems like that would be pretty convenient when you boil. I have also been looking at kegging kits on craigslist. What kind of a deal did you find?

i built that table for practically nothing, the 2x4's were scrap. it was pretty nice using that table on the last batch. i'm thinking about adding some casters to the legs. the kegs were 40.00 combined off of craigslist (my lbs had them for a lot more). i didn't find a great deal on full kegerator systems on craigslist, i've been piecing mine together for the past month...

Good idea on the casters. They will definately add some mobility and be very useful. Not a bad price for the kegs either. I haven't made the jump yet to kegging, but plan to later this year. Bottling is something I could do without. Anyway, good luck building up your system.
