Hi there !

I'm going to brew an Oktoberfest batch for the first time .

Can I use "Hallertauer Magnum" Hops for both bittering and flavoring ?

If yes , how much would you use for each purpose ?

Batch Vol. = 0.5 Gallon

O.G. = 1.056

Magnum is a great bittering hop, I use it all the time, but it's not a good choice for flavor/aroma. Get yourself some regular Hallertauer or Saaz for that.

Of course traditionally with an Oktoberfest, hop flavor and aroma are minimal. I've seen recipes that only use a bittering addition. I only use a 1/3 oz for flavor, and no aroma hops. If all you have is Magnum I think you'd be OK, otherwise as LLBeanJ said, use a little of some Noble hop variety.

pjj2ba is correct that you could brew this with just a bittering addition and forego any flavor additions since the style calls for little to no hop presence. For the bittering, you'd be looking at around .50-.75 oz of Magnum, assuming they are around 14% AA. You give a recipe volume of 0.5 gallon. Is that a typo? I assumed it should be 5.0 gallon or maybe 5.5.
