Hi,

First of all, I came here just to ask this question, as there are many experienced people here who are most likely abundant in knowledge in the topic.

I recently did a basic sugar wash brew, with sugar, water, and yeast, and left in a bottle with a few holes in the top. I know this sounds horrible, and it is very ghetto, but the taste after a week was alcoholic, and I was tipsy after about 500ml of the stuff.

I am just here to ask about the dangers, as I have read about methanol and some sites saying there is methanol produced in sugar wash, and that it is not safe to drink. Also, what are some recommended bare minimum procedures to filter the solution easily, with home equipment. I am not using a still or anything fancy here, this is the bare minimum.

Any help and safety tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

-Hunter.

Interesting first post. You'll be just fine. There's methanol in beer, sugar wash, and wine. Much more in fruit based concoctions. At least use DME rather than sugar.

P.S. You may be in the wrong forum.

Well, since you are posting in the beginners beer brewing forum, it's worth noting what you made was not, in fact, beer.

Also: just, why? No filtering will remove the nasty from that. Sorry.

Is it finals week?
