Hope I stated that right. I have seen some electric setups with a piece of aluminum IIRC at the bottom of a kettle to help prevent rust on the heating elements. I have the rust problem and was wondering if this metal was just lying at the bottom of the kettle or "attached" somehow? Trying to prevent the rusting which has plagued my setup over and over.

The anode (usually magnesium) has to be bonded, attached to the kettle. The ones most people use are replacements for electric hot water heaters and have a NPT threaded connection, most likely 1/2" NPT.
 
Cool yeah in more research I found what u r talking about...may check that out.
