Hello Everyone:

After having just sampled Green Flash's Rye IPA, was feeling inspired and wanted to attempt my first Rye. I originally had 1.5#s of Crystal 60, but removed it thinking it was too much and too many specialty grains...subbed in 1lb of Corn Sugar to dry it out a bit and let the Nelson hop (hopefully) shine through.

Thoughts or feedback is most definitely appreciated!

11 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 1 68.8 %
3 lbs Rye Malt (4.7 SRM) Grain 2 18.8 %
8.0 oz Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 3 3.1 %
8.0 oz Wheat Malt, Ger (2.0 SRM) Grain 4 3.1 %
1 lbs Corn Sugar (Dextrose) [Boil for 10 min](0.0 SRM) Sugar 8 6.3 %

Mash Steps
Mash In Add 4.75 gal of water at 163.5 F 152.0 F 75 min
Batch sparge with 2 steps (Drain mash tun , 4.24gal) of 168.0 F water

1.00 oz Columbus (Tomahawk) - FWH 60.0 min 40.2 IBUs
1.00 oz Nelson Sauvin [12.00 %] - Boil 15.0 min Hop 6 18.0 IBUs

Looks like a good recipe, I make one very similar. I really like the Nelson hops. The only critique I can give is to consider replacing the carapils with crystal 60. It will give you a little more flavor, color, and sweetness that may be needed with that much hoppiness.

May do that...thanks!!
