I posted a couple days ago that I was going to do a weldless thermometer using a $0.89 rubber stopper and I received a crapload of mockery. You all asked me to post pictures...so you could mock, you asked me to youtube it...so you could mock. Well...in the imortal words of Run DMC:

If its SBR then its rated to 180 and can impart a flavor. Same type of rubber in tires. Synthetic rubber. I would suggest boiling it in a cup or so of water in the microwave, letting the water cool and smell/taste it before investing a batch of beer.

McMaster sells silicone stoppers that are rated to 600 degrees.

Otherwise, this looks like it will work.
